1000 Steps of Yamadera

Today was quite the adventure. I thought, where can I go to get out of Tokyo for a few hours and enjoy the mountains. A quick google search and off I went on my 3-hour journey by train to Yamadera to visit the Rissyakuji Temple. When I arrived at the local train station I finally felt like I was in the country side. I took a breath and looked out from the station toward my goal. The walk through the small town was quaint, I paid my entrance fee and set off towards the top. Along the way I passed a few locals. As I approached the top a familiar site appeared; a group a students walking down the steps. While I went on numerous field trips in school to events and historical locations, it just doesn’t feel the same as what these student are getting to experience with trips to sites like this. At the summit, I paid my respects at the temple and took the opportunity to relax and gaze upon the view of the valley below. In this moment, I was thankful I had the opportunity to be here and excited to further explore this amazing country.
