Discovering Kyoto: A Blend of Tranquility and Tradition

When planning my trip to Japan, I knew a stop in Kyoto was a must. Lucky for me I have multiple visits to this quite city in the span of week. Once as a solo traveler, and once with my parents who joined me on a tour around Japan. While I enjoy the flexibility of solo travel, any opportunity to spend time with my parents is welcomed, especially if we can enjoy one of favorite hobbies together.

On my Solo adventure, I started my day in Kyoto like many others with a nice walk to the top of Fushimi Inari Taisha. After you get past the first landing spot, the number of people trekking to the top falls dramatically. It was a pleasant round trip, with the path up and down more appealing than the summit. From here I made my way to Kiyomizu-dera before wrapping up my day at Kinkaku-ji.

When I joined up with my parents, I visited some familiar sites as my previous day with a few additional stops. Our day started with a walk around the Nijo Castle which resembled the layout of a palace instead of the Castle like the others I have visited on this trip. After exploring the grounds, We made a stops at Ryozen Kannon, the Nishiki Market, Hanamikoji Street and Shirakawa Lane.

In the evening, my mother I enjoyed a walk around Kyoto Station to view the light shows displayed across 5 floors of steps before walking around Ishibei-koji Lane with stops at Hōkan-ji Temple and Yasaka-jinja Shrine. The Yasaka-jinja Shrine was my favorite stop of the evening as the atmosphere at the shrine was quite serene with the lighted lanterns and a cooling breeze.
